Butler's Next Mural - "Welcome to Butler"

Butler's next mural, "Welcome to Butler," was started today by local artist Amy Buchs.  The mural is being painted on the north wall of the Cupbearer Cafe at 111 South Broadway.  It will be visible from the US 6 and State Road 1 intersection.  Check back to this website for regular updates.

Hydrant Flushing Starts June 14, 2021

NOTICE - The City of Butler will start hydrant flushing this AM, June 14, 2021.

US 6 East in Butler is Now Closed

NOTICE - US 6 (East Main Street) in Butler is now closed to through traffic in order to install a 60-inch stormwater intercept line, 16-feet deep, at the east end of the Forest River property, 685 East Main Street. 

The potential closure period may extend to Monday, August 23, 2021, weather and construction details permitting. An earlier opening date is possible depending on how work progresses. Notification will be provided if the road is opened at an earlier date.
The official detour route is illustrated below as follows:

  • Turn Southbound onto State Road 1 and proceed to State Road 8.
  • Turn Eastbound on State Road 8 to the Ohio State Line where this road becomes Ohio State Road 18. Proceed Eastbound to the intersection with Ohio State Road 49 in Hicksville, Ohio.
  • Proceed Northeast and North on Ohio State Road 49 to the intersection of Ohio State Road 49 and US 6 in Edgerton, Ohio.
  • Through Westbound traffic on US 6 in Edgerton will reverse the same course as noted above.

US 6 in Butler - East Main Street - Scheduled to Close June 14 for Project

REMINDER - US 6 (East Main Street) in Butler is scheduled to be closed Monday, June 14, 2021 to install a 60-inch stormwater intercept line 16-feet deep at the east end of the Forest River property, 685 East Main Street.

Butler Plan Commission - Public Hearing for Proposed Zoning Map Amendment

The City of Butler Plan Commission will hold a public hearing regarding a proposed amendment to the Butler Zoning Map on Monday, May 10, 2021, 6:30 PM, in the Butler City Hall Council Chamber, 215 South Broadway, Butler, Indiana.

The proposed amendment includes properties in three separate areas of Butler that are proposed for rezoning.

Eastside Community Foundation - Scholarships

The Eastside Area Community Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for both high school seniors and current college students.

Ordinance 1722 Adopted Amending the Butler Zoning Ordinance

Ordinance # 1722 was adopted February 1, 2021 by the Butler Common Council by a vote of 3 Yes and 0 No.

This Ordinance modifies Appendix A, “Land Use Matrix” to the Butler Zoning Ordinance by adding the notation, via a double asterisk (**), that Manufactured Home Dwelling Units are not permitted in any Butler zoning district on any parcel that abuts the entire length of South Broadway, North Broadway, East Main and West Main streets in Butler.

Revamped City of Butler Website Now Up & Running

The revamped City of Butler website is now up and running. It offers easily accessible information regarding the Butler City government and about Butler as a community. The site is now hosted by Revize. Revize specializes in municipal government websites.

Quick Link buttons are now provided at the top of the homepage for easy access to various City departments and services, including links to PayGov for utility and traffic court payments.

House Numbering Ordinance 1707 Adopted

Ordinance # 1707, amending the existing Chapter 154 of the City of Butler Code of Ordinances, was adopted by the Butler Common Council September 8, 2020.    The Ordinance sets standards for house numbers on building within Butler.  It also codifies the street address numbering system within Butler.

Ordinance # 1721 - No Parking on Jake Street

Ordinance # 1721, an Ordinance to eliminate parking on both sides of Jake Street in Butler, was adopted by the Butler Common Council on January 4, 2021.  The entire adopted ordinance is available for review at this link.
