Welcome to the chief's page. I was sworn in as the chief of police for the city of Butler on January 7th, 2008. I would like to thank the Mayor and the Butler City Council for the confidence and faith that they have put in me for this trusted position. I would also like to thank the many members of the Butler community that have congratulated me and wished me well.
I take my duties as your Chief of police very seriously. And will work tirelessly to provide the citizens of Butler with the best possible service that we can deliver.
The citizens of Butler are blessed to have such a dedicated group of men and women who work so hard every day to provide pro-active and professional police services . The members of the Butler Police Department understand that our community has put much faith and trust in them to do their job the right way. My goal is to insure that the men and women who serve you on behalf of the Butler Police Department, will do so with honor, courage, commitment and pride.
Chief Nichols has been a sworn law enforcement officer since 1991. And has been a member of the Butler Police Department since 1997. Chief Nichols is a graduate of the Fort Wayne Police Department Reserve Academy the Indiana law enforcement Academy's Town Marshal 's Academy, an Honor Graduate of the Indiana law Enforcement Academy and is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership Academy . Chief Nichols was on the Dean's list and graduated with honors with a Degree in Criminal justice from Indiana University and is working towards a degree in public affairs from Indiana University. Chief Nichols also served 26 years in the Indiana Air National Guard and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. Chief Nichols deployed overseas seven times in support of the war on terror and serve two combat tours in Iraq under hostile fire. Chief Nichols has six full time officers and spots for 10 reserve officers at this time.
