Historic windmill manufactured by The Butler Company, Butler, Indiana, restored and erected at the new Butler Fire Station, 700 W Main St, October 23, 2010. The Butler Company, originally the Butler Manufacturing Company, produced pumping windmills in Butler, Indiana, from 1888 until 1943 when World War II forced the company to convert to war production. Windmills were produced in a wide range of models in diameters ranging from 6’ to 16’. Butler windmills were sold throughout the Great Plains and Midwest, and were distributed abroad.
The windmill pictured on our home page and in the photos below is an Oilomatic, manufactured here in the 1920’s. It was rebuilt and restored by Ivan Block of Wausau, Wisconsin. The tower is an exact replica of an original Butler tower.
