Mayor Walter opened the meeting of the Butler/Wilmington Fire Territory Advisory Board at 6:30 pm at 700 West Main Street.
The minutes from the February 3, 2011 meeting were presented. While the Board was looking them over, Mayor Walter introduced Jeff Shultz as the new Fire Chief. Tammy Davis made a motion to approve the minutes and Dave Capp seconded the motion. The motion passed with all in favor.
Mayor Walter stated that the purpose of this meeting is to discuss and approve the 2012 budget for the Fire Department.
Clerk-Treasurer Eck briefly went over what expenses have been incurred this year and how they compare to what was budgeted. Fire Chief Shultz then passed out the proposed budget for 2012 and explained what item had been increased. There was some discussion on a couple of items but no changes were made.
Fire Chief Shultz then passed out a request for additional appropriations, Ordinance 1543, for this year. The requests are for a floor scrubber, a down payment on new air packs and bottles, additional miscellaneous equipment, reimbursement to the Fire Department Membership for the purchase of a light trailer, and the remaining balance in the Fire Station Building Fund.
Fire Chief Shultz next went into detail about the air pack and bottles. This is a purchase that will need to be bid out and they would like to do a lease-purchase option so that everything can be purchased at the same time.
Fire Chief Shultz handed out information on the walk behind floor scrubber that they would like to purchase to clean the bay floors.
There was discussion on the air packs and scrubber estimates.
Eric Johnson made a motion to forward Ordinance 1543 to the Butler Common Council for them to approve and Tammy Davis seconded the motion. The motion passed with all in favor.
Eric Johnson made a motion to approve the purchase of the floor scrubber and forward it to the Board of Works. Heather Jones seconded the motion. The motion passed with all in favor.
Eric Johnson made a motion ask the Board of Works to proceed with the purchase of air packs and bottle with financing for 3 to 5 years. Heather Jones seconded the motion. The motion passed with all in favor.
Mayor Walter asked if anyone from the audience had questions or concerns for the Board.
Sandy Harrison of Franklin Township asked that the Board consider reducing the percentage of her assessed value that she pays on to 50%. It is currently at 60% of assessed value and Hamilton has tentatively agreed to reduce their portion to 50%. Clerk-Treasurer Eck replied that she will gather some information for the next meeting on that issue.
Mayor Walter stated that the annual meeting with the Township Trustees still needs to happen. He would like to have it on July 12 at 6:30 at the Fire Station.
Tammy Davis made a motion to approve the 2012 Budget and to forward it to the Butler Common Council. Dave Capp seconded the motion. The motion passed with all in favor.
Fire Chief Shultz passed out information on the number of runs for 2010 and for 2011. Dave Capp asked that the information be separated into each township or city.
Eric Johnson made a motion to adjourn and Tammy Davis seconded the motion. The motion passed with all in favor.
